Customer Review: Great GPS, but how do you update the maps?
Ordered the GM-408 on a Friday afternoon and had the box from Allcam on
Monday morning. We took it out for a test run that same weekend, going
from London to Alconbury and it got us right to where we were going.
However, I gave it 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1) Although the maps guided us
directly from door to door, there were two roundabouts where we needed
to take the 2nd exit and the voice command said to take the 1st exit.
The map had it right, but if there weren't a 2nd person in the car to
see that on the screen, we'd have wound up on the wrong road. Although
my co-worker, who has a Tom Tom 910, said the same thing happens to him
as well. 2) The maps are from early 2006. I installed the CDs that came
with the unit from Allcam, but there was no product key to register it
with Destinator. Allcam advised that I will need to purchase the maps,
but didn't give me a list of vendors to buy from. Internet searches
yielded little as well. Its like Destinator doesn't support its own
software when you get the Destinator Navigates version with your GPS. I
don't want new maps, just updates to the current one. Maybe its just me,
but when I shell out $400 bucks for something then I think I should get
at least one free update. Go figure. Overall, I am still very happy with
my purchase and I will definitely order items through Allcam again.
Customer Review: disappointed
couldn't wait to get started. First instruction sent me in opposite
direction. Still haven't been able to find any address with postcode.
Struggled to find my own address. My house number is 4a. Message says no
such number. Hugely disappointed. Total waste of money
